There are so many parts that go into creating a video game. With students, we are able to teach the principles of game development while helping faculty instruction and projects throughout the University. Our core tenets for development help students find what they are passionate about and help with projects according to those roles.
Interest FormEvery project has people that make it work. Different specializations allow for team members to focus on areas to hone their own skills and contribute to the project.
From sprite animation to 3D effects, artists are essential in every part of video game creation. Art is an integral part of player experience
Designers make user experience decisions in detail. Decision-making, user interface, and mathematics are all important.
Programming is what brings games to life with player controls, computer decisions, and rigging together all the art and design.
Managing a project always requires good time management, communication, and people skills.
Understanding current trends and appealing to the target audience are key to bringing attention to the public.
Each project will be looking for designers, programmers, artists, and project managers. On top of these roles, we are also interested in onboarding generalist sound engineers and game testers to span across all projects.
Once students are onboarded into a database of creators across campus, professors and faculty utilize these students' talents and abilities for projects such as academic research, new course curricula, and so much more. If you are interested in any area in particular, please make sure to specify this in the form.
Yes, students are paid an hourly rate for the work that they perform dependent on the project. Students work on projects for faculty or for team leads in the Studio, and they must report back to whomever they work for.
Students will work with their team assigned to them for an assigned project. In addition, students will be reporting to their lead about the progress on the project as well as asking for anything they might need help with. This lead might be another student or a faculty member.
